Compress an image

Shrink a JPG, PNG, or WEBP before you send it. The picture stays in this browser.

A photo from a phone can be larger than a form, chat app, or email limit will accept. Compression makes a smaller copy you can send, while the original stays on your device until you decide what to keep.

When to compress

Compress an image when:

  • an upload form rejects the file for size
  • you are sending several photos in one message
  • you only need a clear copy, not every camera pixel

If you need a print or a later edit, keep the original and send the smaller copy.

Open the image compressor

  1. Open the image compressor.
  2. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WEBP from your device.
  3. Review the preview before you save anything.

Save a smaller picture

  1. Start the compression.
  2. Compare the new size to the original if the tool shows both.
  3. Save the smaller file, then open it once to confirm it still looks sharp enough.

The picture stays in this browser. It is not uploaded.
